Jessica Ottney Mahar, The Nature Conservancy’s New York policy and strategy director issued the following statement:

New York voters deserve a shout-out for their overwhelming support of a once-in-a-generation bond measure that will protect and restore the natural resources we all depend on. A truly remarkable coalition of stakeholders from every region of the state and every political persuasion, came together to support the Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act.

New York's cities, towns, and villages across the state will reap the benefits, including addressing critical community needs ranging from replacing lead water pipes and modernizing sewers to protecting family farms and expanding urban forests. This is a major victory for people and for the environment

The Nature Conservancy commends Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State legislators for placing the measure on the ballot and the hundreds of organizations, local government leaders, and advocates that took part in the Vote Yes for Clean Water and Jobs campaign and educated voters about how the Bond Act will protect clean water, reduce pollution and improve quality of life.

We look forward to working with partners across the state to realize the promise of the Bond Act. We are grateful to have played a leadership role in this historic victory for clean water, clean air and healthy communities.
