Protect Your Neck of the Woods

The Click to Donate campaign has ended. Nature Valley has contributed $125,000 to The Nature Conservancy. Thank you for your support of both The Nature Conservancy and Nature Valley.

The spread of invasive species is now the second greatest threat to biodiversity. On their home turf, plant and animal populations are kept in check by natural controls, like predators and food supply. However, when a species is introduced—accidentally or intentionally—into a new landscape, the consequences can be devastating: disrupted natural cycles, crowding out of native species, and billions in property damage and lost economic productivity.

What the Conservancy is Doing:
Building on years of experience in invasive species management, the Conservancy has created the Invasive Species Initiative to address this urgent and pervasive threat. The initiative works with a network of private and public partners worldwide to pursue prevention, early detection/rapid response, restoration, research and outreach.

Six Easy Steps to Fight Invasive Species:
You can help fight the spread of invasive species by following six easy guidelines.

Invasive Species Facts:

  • More than 4,500 foreign species have gained a permanent foothold or taken root in the U.S. during the past century.
  • Invasive species contribute to the decline of 46% of the imperiled or endangered species in the U.S.
  • Invasive species are estimated to cost a total of $137 billion annually in losses to agriculture, forestry, fisheries and the maintenance of open waterways in the U.S.
