Nationwide Survey Finds Nature Conservancy Most Trusted Organization
Harris Interactive® Finds 79 Percent of Those Familiar With The Nature Conservancy Trust the Organization
Arlington, VA—January 23, 2006—In a survey conducted last month, Harris Interactive®, a worldwide market research company, found The Nature Conservancy to be the most trusted organization among 13 leading non-profit organizations, think tanks and associations. According to Harris, 79 percent of those familiar with the Conservancy said they trusted the organization, which was the highest trust score of any organization tested.
In a news release announcing the results of the survey, Harris said, “Among those familiar with them, The Nature Conservancy, the AARP and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce are the most trusted Beltway organizations. Large majorities of those who are familiar with both The Nature Conservancy (79 percent) and AARP (77 percent) trust them…”
According to the Harris survey, 47 percent of Americans say they are familiar with The Nature Conservancy.
“These findings, I think, reflect the Conservancy's local focus, organizational values and collaborative, results-oriented approach,” said James Petterson, the Conservancy's chief communications officer. “With our organization's strong commitment to accountability and governance we hope to further build on these numbers in the months and years ahead.”
The Harris Poll® was conducted online within the United States between November 15 and 22, 2005 among 1,718 adults (aged 18 and over). Figures for age, sex, race, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents' propensity to be online.
