Weeks Bay National Estuarine Reserve

Salt Marsh

This reserve, formed with the help of The Nature Conservancy, consists of approximately 3,075 acres of bay waters, marsh and lowlands along Alabama's coast, set aside for research, education and public use and enjoyment.

This important estuary in Baldwin County provides a critical nursery for fish and shellfish. Ideal for research, the Weeks Bay site is also used as a field laboratory for scientists, students.

Visitors to this reserve can learn about estuarine ecology in a natural setting, and get information about changes in water quality through pollution and runoff, or alterations to the shoreline, that can harm the many different habitats and the plants and animals living there. Weeks Bay NERR has a educational center, boardwalk and observation platform. Regularly scheduled tours provided by the Weeks Bay Reserve staff.
