Florida Forever Day March 18

Florida Forever Coalition to host educational event at the Capitol.

TALLAHASSEE, FL—March 11, 2008—Members of the Florida Forever Coalition are proud to host Florida Forever Day at the Capitol on March 18. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Florida Capitol Courtyard (area between the old and new capitol buildings).

Legislators, their staff, agency professionals, and the general public are invited to attend a luncheon and learn about our state’s great Florida Forever program, the many conservation and recreation accomplishments of Florida Forever and Preservation 2000 before it, the importance of conserving Florida’s special places, and the pressing land conservation needs that face Florida today.

The Nature Conservancy is a member of the Florida Forever Coalition — a group of more than 50 organizations dedicated to increasing funding for land conservation to $600 million by doubling the funding for the state's Florida Forever program in 2008. The Florida Forever Coalition is asking for the creation of a successor program to Florida Forever, which is due to expire in 2010.

The Nature Conservancy is a leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. With funding from the voter approved Florida Forever program and our generous donors the Conservancy has helped protect more than 1.2 million acres in Florida since 1961.
