Stopping the Spread in Central Florida

The Nature Conservancy has mobilized a partnership to address Old World climbing fern (Lygodium microphyllum) coast to coast across central Florida. The Central Florida Lygodium Strategy strives to create a “lygodium-free” zone through a coordinated approach involving both public and private land owners and managers.

This landscape-level approach includes:

  • mapping and assessment of climbing fern distribution,
  • on-the-ground control projects on public and private lands, and
  • public education about identification and control of climbing ferns.

Assistance For Landowners
If you suspect Old World climbing fern is infesting your property in central Florida, e-mail rrowe@tnc.org or call The Nature Conservancy's central Florida office at (863) 635-7506. We may be able to treat it for you.
