Statement from Louisiana State Director Keith Ouchley on the Aftermath of the Hurricanes

“There are still many difficult days ahead but we will persevere,” says Director of The Nature Conservancy in Louisiana

Baton Rouge, Louisiana—While Louisiana has suffered an almost unimaginable loss from the recent hurricane, we are fortunate to report that all of our staff and trustees are safe and secure.

Our first response has been to administer to the needs of staff members who have been displaced and who have lost their homes and nearly all possessions.

All staff are settling in to new locations and we are making progress in helping them secure their basic needs. Three of our seven offices, New Orleans, Grand Isle and Northshore, will be off-line for some time.

Staff from those offices are working out of our Baton Rouge office and can be reached at 225-338-1040. We have begun to assess the damage to our preserves and will have more information concerning our findings at a later date.

Thanks to all of you who have expressed your concern for those of us here in Louisiana. There are still many difficult days ahead but we will persevere.

Keith Ouchley
State Director
