Volunteer Job Description

Job Title:      Operations Assistant

Supervisor:  Lara Rainbolt, West Michigan Conservation Coordinator

Location:      The Nature Conservancy in Michigan

Purpose of this position: To provide administrative support for the West Michigan Conservation Coordinator, working mostly with volunteers.

Typical Duties:

  • General Office Duties: Answering multi-line phone, assist with various projects, processing mail
  • Working with Volunteers: answering volunteer inquires, signing volunteers up for workdays, sending volunteer confirmation letters, creating volunteer sign up sheets, forwarding workday participant information to workday leaders, following up with volunteers

Required Qualifications:

  • Willingness to help with things both complex and mundane
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word 97 (Excel, Access and PowerPoint preferred)
  • Good organizational skills
  • Accurate and detail oriented
  • Able to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Start Date: mid-April Deadline for completion of project: Ongoing

Estimated total time commitment: 12-16 hours per week; may fluctuate due to program demands

Preferred day and/or time of the week: Our office is open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Schedule is flexible; however, would prefer at least four hours/day. Must be able to commit to 3 days/week.

How will a volunteer benefit from this position? By learning more about The Nature Conservancy and volunteer management while helping with a myriad of tasks that ultimately benefit our mission. A volunteer could also use this position to build their resume and prepare themselves for future work in a similar non-profit setting.

How does completion of this project assist The Nature Conservancy? Both by providing volunteers with superior service and by freeing up staff time to tackle other projects.
