Lindbergh Lake Pines
Swan Valley, Montana

Lindbergh Lake Pines, in the scenic Swan Valley, is a 40-acre grove of venerable old-growth ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir and western larch. It's worth stopping here, not far from the eastern shore of Lindbergh Lake, to experience the grandeur of these trees. Although ponderosa pine is Montana's state tree, it has become difficult to find in old-growth stands.

A trail meanders through this remnant of pristine bottomland forest and prime grizzly bear habitat to Beaver Lake in the Flathead National Forest. This area forms the headwaters of the Swan River.
