Preserve Visitation Guidelines for Long Island

The Nature Conservancy owns 65 preserves on Long Island. Many are open to the public for hiking, bird watching and photography. We invite you to visit our preserves and enjoy the wide variety of landscapes they offer people of all ages.

When walking the preserves:

  • Wear proper shoes
  • Bring insect repellent and sunscreen.
  • Guard against Lyme disease by tucking pants into socks, wearing light-colored clothes and checking yourself periodically for ticks.
  • Bring binoculars to observe wildlife from a distance.
  • Proceed slowly, and most of all, enjoy the sights and sounds of your surroundings.

To protect the delicate balance of these unique wildlife sanctuaries, we ask visitors to please respect the following guidelines:

  • Please remain on marked trails-only hiking is allowed.
  • Please leave your pets, horses, bikes and motorized vehicles at home, unless otherwise noted.
  • Help keep preserves litter free-be careful to carry out anything you brought in.
  • Please do not disturb the plants and animals-take pictures only.
  • No hunting, trapping or fishing.
  • No camping, picnics or fires.

Your thoughtfulness and cooperation are appreciated and will help preserve the natural legacy of this region for future generations. Thank you, and enjoy your visit.
