The Nature Conservancy in New York City
Don’t think for a minute that because none of our preserves are located within the five boroughs we aren’t working tirelessly to promote conservation! A full complement of lectures, hikes, bird walks and events ensures we stay in touch with our members and friends year round.
From our New York City office we manage multiple programs designed to further our mission. Among these are:
- A regular series of lectures and discussions with Conservancy science staff and other scientists designed to deepen the understanding of local, national and international conservation issues. This series underscores the Conservancy’s commitment to engage diverse audiences and broaden the understanding of our mission. To find out more, view the events calendar or download the events brochure (.pdf, 364 kb).
- Co-sponsoring of events with partners like the New York City Audubon, the Carriage House Center, the American Museum of Natural History, Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC), and the Linnaean Society.
- The Internship Program for City Youth, in partnership with the High School for Environmental Studies in Manhattan. Learn more.
- An Annual Spring Benefit that highlights one of the Conservancy's most exciting international program. The Conservancy's work to protect the vibrant people and landscapes of Mexico was the focus of this year's event on May 4th, 2006.

Attend one of the many Nature Conservancy events in New York City:
- Voices from South of the Clouds, an exhibition of over 30 spectacular color photographs and stories of life in China's Yunnan Province, opened September 17, 2005, at the American Museum of Natural History. The exhibition is the result of an innovative Nature Conservancy Project called Photovoice that uses photography to enable villagers from many of the Yunnan Province's minority cultures to document their lives and secure their participation in conservation efforts in the region.
Voices from South of the Clouds is on view through January 1, 2007 in the Akeley Gallery and is free with Museum Admission. The exhibition is made possible by a generous grant from Eastman Kodak Company.
