January 09, 2008: Land Overlooking New River Gorge Conserved and Open for Recreation
About 4,600 acres of forest overlooking the New River Gorge will be conserved for future generations through a partnership that includes The Nature Conservancy, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and the Mountain State’s hunters and anglers, Gov. Joe Manchin III announced today.

August 10, 2007: Monongahela National Forest Acquires Significant Habitat on North Fork Mountain
The Monongahela National Forest has purchased one of the most ecologically significant remaining private parcels of land along the summit of North Fork Mountain, in the eastern portion of the Forest. The property, consisting of 175 acres, includes forests, high cliffs, and rocky summits that support a rich mixture of northern and Appalachian plants of high conservation interest both nationally and within West Virginia.
