TNC Caribbean Board Members Visit Jamaica

Getting an immersive experience in our local nature conservation work

TNC’s Caribbean Board of Trustees convened for their 2024 retreat in Trelawny, Jamaica, with the theme “Inspiring and Enabling Action for 2030 and Beyond.” The retreat was an immersive opportunity for trustees and TNC staff to discover nature in Jamaica, meet partners in the tourism industry and in marine conservation, and explore ways to accelerate conservation in Jamaica and across the region.

Starting with an in-depth visit to the world-famous Dunn’s River Falls, trustees and staff experienced the vital connection between nature and Jamaica’s tourism economy. A discussion with professor Lloyd Waller of the University of the West Indies and Kyle Mais, managing director of Jamaica Inn and chair of the Caribbean Association of Sustainable Tourism, delved more deeply into the opportunities to advance conservation through sustainable tourism. Board members learned firsthand about the work that TNC’s Jamaica team is advancing and its contributions to TNC’s global 2030 Goals, demonstrating the connection between TNC’s work at the local and national level and our regional and global conservation goals.
