Biography
Roberto Hernández is an Honorary Member of the Board of Grupo Financiero Banamex and Honorary Chairman of Banco Nacional de México. He is also a member of the Board of Grupo Televisa. With a fruitful career in the financial sector, he was the co-founder of Acciones y Valores de México (Accival) in 1971, where he served as Chairman of the Board until 2005.
In 1991, Accival and a group of investors acquired Banco Nacional de México (Banamex) founding Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival, the leading financial institution in Mexico for many years. Roberto was Chairman of the Board of Banco Nacional de México from 1991 till April 2013. He was also CEO of the Bank from 1997 until 2001. He served as Chairman of the Mexican Stock Exchange from 1974 to 1979 and Chairman of the Mexican Banking Association from 1993 to 1994. Roberto was also a member of the International Advisory Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and is presently Chairman of the Mexico Banker´s Club.
An enthusiastic and active promoter of Mexican culture, arts, and education, Roberto is also a relentless advocate for the environment. He is Co-Chairman of Fomento Cultural and Fomento Social Citibanamex and Fomento Ecológico Citibanamex, several of which were created during his tenure as CEO and Chairman of the Board. He is also an Associate of the Board of the Universidad Iberoamericana and Chairman of the Board of Universidad Veracruzana, as well as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Museo Nacional de Arte, Honorary Chairman of Museo de Arte del Estado de Veracruz, member of the Board of the World Monuments Fund, former Vice Chairman of The NatureConservancy and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hospital Infantil de México “Federico Gómez.
Born in Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico in 1942, Roberto holds a degree in Business Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. He is married to Claudia and has three daughters and several grandchildren.
