Protecting Water
Find out how we're conserving Ozark and Ouachita Rivers by restoring streams, reforesting floodplains and improving unpaved roads to reduce sediment.
Conserving clean water in the Natural State is a priority for The Nature Conservancy. Our goals are to encourage and assist people living and working on rivers to keep river corridors forested, keep floodplains connected to the river, and keep sediment and nutrients on the land from entering rivers by reforesting floodplains and repairing eroding unpaved roads.
The Arkansas team has completed 10 in-channel restoration projects totaling 6 miles of river. These restorations have resulted in the reduction of 15,000 tons (750 dump truck loads) of sediment entering our streams and rivers and drinking water each year.
More than 8,500 acres along 25 miles of river corridor have been acquired and conserved in the Kings River, Saline River and Greers Ferry Lake watersheds. With your support that number will continue to grow!
