Biography

Nathalie Butt is the Science Publishing Specialist in the Global Science business unit at TNC. Nathalie leads the Empowering Global Voices program, a pioneering initiative to support TNC conservation practitioners in low- and middle-income countries to write and publish their science in the international peer-reviewed literature. In this role, she builds scientific capacity, contributes to equity and supports the production of conservation science by advancing organisational publishing processes and practices. With more than 100 scientific articles and multiple media publications, Nathalie brings substantial scientific experience and expertise to her work.

Previously working in academia, at the Universities of Oxford and Queensland, Nathalie is a climate and ecosystem scientist, whose research has contributed to the advancement of knowledge in three areas: climate-biodiversity interactions, natural resource management and policy development, and ecosystem dynamics. She has substantial experience working in forest ecology in tropical, temperate and eucalyptus ecosystems, and basically loves trees. She has led conservation research and initiatives involving international universities and NGOs, and her work on identifying and quantifying threats to biodiversity has informed how best to manage species and ecosystems in changing environments.

Nathalie is committed to improving, and advocates for, equity and inclusivity, as well as championing Indigenous involvement in ecology and conservation science. She holds a PhD from the University of Oxford.
