The Spiderweed Preserve is now owned and managed by the Middlesex Land Trust.
The Spiderweed Preserve was initially created in 1967 thanks to a generous donation from Helen Lohman of Middletown. She named the property after the sad state in which she found her gardens every spring.
While now in different ownership, visitors to the preserve, which remains open, should keep an eye out for turkey vultures from the overlook. During spring, vernal pools emerge, which are essential habitat for woodland frogs and salamanders. Also look for wildflowers such as bloodroot, trillium, jack-in-the-pulpit and geranium.
