TNC’s Green Swamp Preserve was almost totally burned during last year’s Pulp Road Wildfire. A year later, the preserve is bouncing back. Its many carnivorous plants, including one of the country’s largest populations of Venus flytraps, are thriving. The flytraps are blooming right now, so this is an exceptional time to visit the preserve to see how the flytraps and other fire-dependent species are doing in the wake of the fire, which burned 15,642 acres.

When: Tuesday, June 4, 11 a.m.

Where: Green Swamp Preserve, Brunswick County. From Wilmington, follow US 17 South to Supply, NC. At the intersection of Hwy 211 (there is a Hardee’s and Bojangles at the intersection), turn right and follow Hwy 211 north for five miles. The parking area for the trailhead is on the right.

Special Directions: There will be a short walk into the preserve. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.
