Clean Energy Benefits America's Economy, Communities and Nature

Clean energy is a win for America. New projects are creating jobs at a record pace, expanding America’s energy resources, reinvigorating our manufacturing sector and lowering electricity costs. More investments of this kind will help strengthen our economy and protect nature.

In just the past two years, hundreds of new clean projects have been announced across the country. These projects will provide clean electricity, expand U.S. manufacturing and help our cars, trucks, factories and homes conserve energy and run cleaner. And, they are already creating jobs. At the start of 2024, almost 3.5 million Americans worked in clean energy jobs and over half of new energy jobs were in clean energy.

Clean energy is helping provide electricity for people and businesses across the country as demand for energy rises. Solar and wind energy are ready to meet that growing need and are among the cheapest forms of energy available. Expanding American-made energy sources gives us more options, making the country more energy independent and globally competitive.

More clean energy also means cleaner air and water—improving the local environment and people’s health.

New, innovative clean energy technologies—like geothermal, next generation nuclear, and carbon capture and storage—are also taking off. These new industries promise even more opportunities for American growth, energy security and global competitiveness.

Congress must maintain clean energy tax credits

Clean energy is critical to supporting American jobs, communities and nature. Congress needs to maintain the existing clean energy tax credits so they can continue to deliver for the American people and our environment.

Tax credits in action

After flooding devastated Kentucky, Bobby Stallard, a former coal miner, is embracing a new form of energy: solar power. Learn how federal tax credits and solar power are helping shape a more sustainable future for the region and helping support small business and communities.

We need to keep this energy boom going.

Policy is helping to unlock these opportunities. Federal tax credits for clean electricity, manufacturing, clean fuels and vehicles, carbon storage and energy efficient homes are encouraging investments in clean energy and are expanding manufacturing.

With all of the good that clean energy is doing across the country, the U.S. can’t back off now. Maintaining these policies and incentives will keep this momentum going and make our economy, communities and environment stronger.

Clean energy tax credits support skilled jobs and diversify economic opportunities

To quantify the potential benefits of the federal clean energy incentives, The Nature Conservancy commissioned BW Research to analyze the economic impacts of investments driven by the tax credits from now until 2032.

The research found the tax credits generate $32.5 billion dollars in overall economic value add each year. That is a return of $1.33 for every federal dollar invested.

More than 285,000 jobs will be supported annually until 2032 across the economy.

When combined with the long-term benefits for energy security, environmental health and community resilience, it’s clear these investments remain the right choice to keep us on a path toward a brighter future.
